Today I used Barchart to sort the S&P 600 Small Cap Index stocks to find the stocks with the best momentum. Today's list includes Century Aluminum (NASDAQ:CENX), Chemed (NYSE:CHE), Green Plains Renewable Energy (NASDAQ:GPRE), American Assets Trusts (NYSE:AAT) and Post Properties (NYSE:PPS).

After Solar City ran over the past couple days, I got a couple requests for a potential high-risk short squeeze/look-the-heck-out names. The following table highlights those with extreme short positions that truly make you go 'hmm'.

The average small cap score is 50.87, below the four week moving average score of 56.79. The average small cap is -20.75% off its 52 week high, 5.60% above its 200 dma, and has 6.77 days to cover held short.

The highest scoring names in small cap from 1 year ago (3/20/2013) returned 3,708 bps more than the S&P 500. The best performers have been RAD up 255%, CAMP up 205%, JAZZ up 163%, MDSO up 127%, GBX up 109%, and HOMB up 90%.
