Facebook Inc. (NASDAQ:FB) has finally heeded users' requests to choose what appears on their news feeds.  Users can now avoid being bombarded with news and updates from all corners. “Facebook is giving users a bit more control over what appears in their News Feeds. Starting today users will have the option of seeing fewer posts from certain friends or block all of that," said Mr. Johnson.

The update will allow users to filter posts from specific people and pages. The update comes in the wake of people demanding more control of their accounts in terms of content that appears when they log in. The News Feed portal has grown over the years to become a core portal for the giant social company that advertisers have relied on for showcasing their goods and services.

The new update will appear in the Facebook apps menu and will display which friends appear the most on users' News Feeds as well as those who have been unfollowed. Users will be allowed to un-follow people who they don’t want to see anymore as well as follow back those they unfollowed in the past.

The Wall Street Journal reports that the changes will have a massive impact beyond Facebook, especially on companies who have over the years relied on the platform for web traffic. Even the slightest of changes is expected to have a dramatic impact on the way advertisers get people to know their products. Facebook has already reiterated that its algorithm is  improving even though people still complain that they are never allowed to see what they want see at a given time.

Facebook’s Product Management Director for News feeds, Adam Moseri, has already reiterated that users can expect the news feeds portal to include more options and customization in the future. Facebook Inc. is also reportedly analyzing the way people will be allowed to view topics in the future depending on the things likes such as science or breaking news.
