It was announced yesterday that Wix (Nasdaq:WIXhas acquired OpenRest in an effort to further their worldwide expansion into new markets. Wix is already becoming a household name and this recent move will certainly open even more opportunities for the company.

Founded four years ago, with the vision of creating an online ordering website that would change the way people order food online, OpenRest went on to create some of the most advanced solutions for their market. The company, which is based out of Delaware but has offices in Tel Aviv, currently offers not only ordering websites, but mobile sites and applications as well. With all that OpenRest currently has to offer, it’s no wonder they caught the attention of a leading company like Wix.

Wix, which came onto the market in 2006, offers a platform where users can create a complete online presence, as well as manage additional aspects of their business that reach beyond the basics of website creation—all from one cohesive, user-friendly, environment. The company currently boasts over 55 million users worldwide and has offices in Israel, the US, Brazil, Lithuania, and Ukraine.

With their new acquisition of OpenRest, Wix will now branch out into yet one more avenue.

“OpenRest perfectly complements our strategy to further enhance the Wix platform with tailored industry-specific solutions. There’s no industry more deserving of this focused attention than the restaurant industry,” said Avishai Avrahami, Wix Co-Founder and CEO. “With Wix and OpenRest, restaurateurs will have a technologically advanced and cost effective solution to better manage their business and their customers’ experience.”

OpenRest and no plans of Resting

In recent years the consumer trend of ordering takeout and deliveries from the comfort of your computer or handheld device has become increasingly popular. With an estimated 350,000 independent restaurants in the US alone, the demand for this service can only grow.

By integrating OpenRest into it’s existing platform, Wix will now be able to offer restaurant owners the option of including online-ordering directly from their Wix websites, allowing the restaurants to provide their customers with a complete online experience. So essentially, it’s a win-win-win situation.

“We launched OpenRest four years ago with the goal of helping restaurant owners and operators streamline their businesses and tap into the opportunities presented by the internet. By joining a market leader like Wix, we will be able to exceed this goal and take our technology so much further,” said Danny Leshem and Yoav Amit, co-founders of OpenRest. “We’re very proud of the solution we developed and are excited to continue to change the way restaurants do business online.”

The acquisition will not have any affect on OpenRest’s current operations, as Leshem and Amit stated on the company’s blog. However, the two will be joining the Wix family and plan to launch “amazing new products.”
