Apple - All The Right Moves

The iPad Air, whether you like Apple or not, is the best tablet ever made. Every single review of the device will make that claim. Apple’s total dominance of the tablet market will also solidify that fact. Well, Apple aired its new ad for the iPad Air yesterday, and while it took me a few times of watching the ad to fully capture all the scenery and messages, the ad is a beautiful thing, which is funny if you compare it to the cheesy and often offensive ads of many of Apple’s competitors. Ahem, Samsung, Ahem.

The new Apple ad is taken from one of the best cinematic performances of all time, Dead Poets Society. You can see the original scene below.

The new ad shows people using the iPad Air for all sorts of purposes including capturing and dissecting hockey plays, calibrating windmills, choreographing a halftime show, constructing a Lego project, shooting video of a natural waterfall, and more.

The message is not only clear, but it is actually spot on in its accuracy. iPad users actually make use the device for many different aspects of their daily lives. This is in sharp contrast to other platforms that have volume and market share, but lack engagement. A quick glance at the stats over the past shopping season comparing iOS and Android shopping says it all.

In any case, watch the ad more than once, listen to the words, pay attention to the scenery. It is a beautiful thing Apple created here to  illustrate its firm belief in bridging the gap between arts and technology, something Jobs brought to the culture of Apple, and which remains in the company’s DNA, if I am judging based on this ad.

None.
