Obama Continues To Sell Out American Workers For Political Gain

The mid-term elections made clear American voters want Washington to better address high unemployment and stagnant wages. Yet, on issues ranging from energy to immigration to trade, President Obama continues to put politics ahead of strengthening American families.

Senator Mary Landrieu (D., LA) is locked in a tight runoff election with Representative Bill Cassidy (R., LA). To improve their chances, both are trying to move a bill through Congress to finally approve the Keystone Pipeline.

The project would bring billions of barrels of western Canadian oil to Gulf ports and refineries and create thousands of high paying jobs, but the president threatens to veto any legislation in deference to the bogus claims of environmentalists that the pipeline would promote fossil fuel use and exacerbate climate change.

Canadian oil is going to get to global markets one way or another—it’s too important to our northern neighbors not to. By denying the safest, most direct route, the oil will get there by rail and other pipeline projects that pose more, not fewer risks.

Even if environmentalists managed to slow development of western Canadian reserves, production would shift to developing countries—where environmental risks are less well managed than in Canada—or in the Middle East—where oil money too often ends up in the hands of terrorists.

Obama appears intent on blocking new jobs in Louisiana and other Gulf States and worsening terrorist threats, simply to sustain support for Democrats among radical environmentalists.

Some 11 million illegal immigrants live and work in America. Many have become critical in construction and other industries—but only by driving down wages and displacing native born Americans with third world competition.

One out of six adult males ages 25 to 54 remain jobless, and many could be offered the dignity of  employment if President Obama enforced immigration laws—and required the states to cooperate, for example by requiring proof of citizenship to possess driver’s licenses, enroll children in schools and access to social services.

Centrist GOP leaders in Congress recognize they have little hope of winning back the White House if they ignore the sentiment of Hispanic voters, who frankly want the president and Congress to ignore our immigration laws and end deportations.

Clearly possible is the potential for a bipartisan compromise that finally seals the border, limits the legalization of undocumented workers to the truly worthy cases, and establishes a rational and effective deportation policy.

Instead, the president appears intent on granting legal status to millions of illegal workers through an executive order that unconstitutionally circumvents Congress. That would force centrist leaders in the new GOP-led Congress to forcefully oppose the president, and permit his surrogates in the media to paint the GOP as anti-Hispanic.

That might help the prospects of Democrats in 2016 but at the expense of flaunting the rule of law, selling out millions of unemployed Americans and pounding down the incomes of working families.

The president is paying off his Silicone Valley financial supporters with a trade deal with China that eliminates tariffs on many high technology products. The White House claims it would create 60,000 jobs by opening the Chinese market to about $1 trillion in U.S. exports.

Sadly, that was what we were told about automobiles when the United States agreed to admit China into the WTO. Instead, China threw up administrative barriers that require competitive U.S. and Japanese automakers to produce with local partners in China to sell there, and ultimately transfer critical knowhow to those partners.

Digital technologies are the family jewels of the American economy but President Obama seems intent on giving those away, along with thousands of good paying jobs, to keep Silicone Valley campaign dollars flowing into Democratic coffers.

Anything for political advantage, the American worker be damned.

Instead it is Putin who is going around the world with his battleships and his bombers and fighters jets seeking attention and using presumed intimidation towards sovereign nations, hoping to be drawn into a conflict, as the sanctions begin to bite he is getting more desperate.

Once again Obama is showing his superior intelligence over Putin. Alas this is something alien to Obama's critics at home, intelligence is their enemy too!

Are you people as stupid as they say? Obama has done nothing but divide our country and do his best to destroy it.

Brent Thibault 9 years ago Member's comment

REALLY Charles, nothing,,, Really..? You haven't a clue if that is your view. Divide? That would be the tea baggers and your hard working congress. Mr not so wise one. Go look at the stats and by stats I don't mean FOX news.Consider, right now in America, corporate profits are at record highs, the country’s adding 200,000 jobs per month, unemployment is below 6%, U.S. gross national product growth is the best of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries.

The dollar is at its strongest levels in years, the stock market is near record highs, gasoline prices are falling, there’s no inflation, interest rates are the lowest in 30 years, U.S. oil imports are declining, U.S. oil production is rapidly increasing, the deficit is rapidly declining, and the wealthy are still making astonishing amounts of money America is leading the world once again and respected internationally in sharp contrast to the Bush years. This defies your view.

After years of struggling and hoping things might change I left the US. Now I am employed, treated fairly and taxes are low, education is tax paid so is the healthcare and I can afford a private healthcare plan that's affordable with excellent coverage. No price gouging at the gasoline pump and food prices are stable and all with GMO labeling law.

That's all you have to do folks, and once the US Government sees its tax money dwindle they will start to reconsider what they are doing. No bloodshed, no fuss, no fighting. Voting is useless, just give them taste of the way everybody else is expected to live like.......in poverty.

It amazes me how polarizing Obama can be. Seems that everyone believes he was either the best or worst president America has ever had. Obviously he's neither. In my opinion he's below average but his time will pace soon and it will be a toss up as to whether or not his replacement will be any better.

Good article though.

Wow. It's REALLY nice to see a political comment that isn't filled with either rage or insult. In my opinion all US presidents are polarizing exactly because D's & R's are so heavily opposed to one another. I agree though... Obama is neither the best nor the worst, and his successor will, like those before him, come to understand what an impossible job it is.

True enough, but I have never seen such a great divide between parties as I have during this presidency. Sorry, but I believe the coals of division were fanned from the top, and many citizens have bent to its destructiveness. We need someone who can pull us back together again.

Long after Obama is gone the world would see how he has steered this wretched country called America from the brink. I have no doubt that his homegrown enemies are hostile towards him on the basis of his ethnicity, it exposes the bigotry in America and a sickening reminder that, despite the the efforts of so many to heal this stink the factions are there to disrupt and divide, and that is frightening.

So Mr Morici could go back to the drawing board and come up with a plausible excuse!

Joel Santiago 9 years ago Member's comment

I think you are exaggerating here. Yes many make Obama out to be worse than he is. And while racism of course comes into play for some Obama haters, most hate him simply because he is a democrat and it wouldn't matter if he was white, black or pink. I would say there are a lot of apologists out there though, who might not be so quick to forgive Obama's errors if he were just another middle aged white guy.

Obama instead of dancing to Putin's beat uses quiet diplomacy in the great world of chess Putin wanted Obama to do exactly as the intellectual lightweights who criticise him want and that is to get aggressive so that he would have an excuse to invade the countries he still thinks belongs to Russia starting with the Baltic states but Obama is smart Putin could not goad him into sending weapons and military help into Ukraine, as this would be Putin's excuse.

Now that the same program has been a success no one is talking about that, I have just learnt that it is in the black with a tidy profit, funny how that is not on Fox.

Recently a bunch of discredited so called Americans stoop lower than a toad stool to declare on Fox that they wished Putin was running America, well it might fit with their agenda because Putin likes to invade other countries so maybe Mexico and Canada could be annexed? Or are they confused? I thought they wanted Mexicans out?

Earl Richardson 9 years ago Member's comment

Obama did it in less than that. They even blamed Obama for Ebola and immigration, but once again instead of knee jerk reactions he thought out how to address the situation carefully and now it is eradicated and is no longer a threat. Look at for example the insults they threw at him about the clean energy program, one of the firms under that program went bust- Not Obama's fault it was bad management and downright sheer incompetence but the sheep who follow Fox news like a religion blamed Obama

Unemployment has been reduced, more jobs have been added to a higher figure than when he took office, The Affordable Care act is a success story with his detractors focusing on the one thing he trusted his hapless "American" IT specialists to do and that is to develop a functioning website. The deficit which was over 1.3 trillion - which he inherited from George Bush is now below half that figure, and remember that Romney boasted that he would be able to half the deficit in his first term-
