5 Dead Obvious Reasons Video Is The Next Big Thing In Mobile Advertising

One of the largest challenges in the mobile world is of course monetization. Why is monetization so difficult? Well, because of five words. You ready?

People. Don’t. Pay. For. Apps.

No, really, they don’t. A ridiculous percentage of app downloads are free and that number is only growing. Now there are many ways to crack mobile monetization and advertising is not the only possible route. Having said that, it is still the most widespread and many will, claim that when mobile advertising is done right, it is still the most effective.

So why video? Here are five reasons:

  1. Users Get Bored. Fast! Call it the Twitter generation or something else, but people just simply have no patience or tolerance. The result? Most users are blind to banners and display advertising. Of course, Google still makes the majority of its revenue from display ads but on mobile, it’s a different ball game and advertisers need to take it up 15 notches. What better way to engage users than full blown video ads relevant to the user?
  2. Advertising Doesn’t Have to be a Dirty Word! Let’s just say it as it is, shall we? You hear the word advertising, you think bad UX. At the end of the day, those, pardon my French, crappy banner ads you see on the top of your apps are the reason people associate advertising with something that automatically lowers the quality of your app. But there is another way. Imagine an ad that is actually done so well, it enhances your app. Think about the way brands used to advertise. Magazines, beautiful full page engaging ads with some fantastic copy. Ah, the good old days. Well, there is no reason we cannot replicate the quality of those ads with video advertising.shutterstock_98659559

Do You Realize How Powerful your Smartphone is? As you must know, your smartphone whether it’s an iPhone or an Android device, is more powerful than a top of the line computer from just a few years ago. Why not leverage that speed, that display, that processor, and those sensors to display relevant, targeted, video ads to the user in real time?
  4. Not Convinced? Show Me the Money! If you are not yet sold on mobile video advertising, a quick glance at the average eCPM for video will surely convince you. I mean advertisers will pay you a significantly higher rate for video advertising in your app. Of course, the reason they will do that is because of everything we mentioned above but you know what they say… “Money talks”.
  5. Seriously? Not Convinced? Fine. Then, How about This? Listen, how do I say this nicely? If you cannot recognize the potential of mobile video advertising, then you can surely recognize what the leading analysts are saying about it. Or in other words, it won’t be long before video advertising becomes completely mainstream and something that all premium developers will be leveraging. You can either embrace it now or fall behind later. The question is not “if”, but “when” video advertising will totally take over the world of mobile monetization!
