Why You Should Keep Tabs On Rumors Surrounding The Amazon Smartphone

There are rumors circulating about Amazon working on a smartphone. A 3D smartphone. And no, there isn’t a need for special glasses to view images in 3D. This smartphone will also have four front facing cameras that will detect the retina of the user to make some (not all) images appear in 3D, comparable to a hologram.

Hologram Phone

I’m curious to see how their eye-tracking technology will manipulate images and texts based on the movement of the retina and the phone. There’s a lot of talk stating that the technology will automatically zoom in on images after sensing that the user has moved closer to the screen. But won’t that be a little annoying? What if we’re just rearranging our seating positions and don’t want to zoom in?

This phone would be perfect for gamers. But then again, handheld 3D gaming without glasses isn’t anything new for gamers. Back in 2011, Nintendo came out with the 3DS, and it went onto become one of their most successfully sold consoles within its first two years. However, the Nintendo 3DS brought on a series of health concerns over possible harm to vision. Ophthalmologists stepped in, investigated, and concluded that the 3DS is perfectly safe IF used in moderation. I can’t help but wonder if skeptics will cry foul again over similar concerns if and when this phone makes it to market.

I’m guessing Amazon will use Android OS to power the phone, because that’s what’s in the Kindle Fire and is to be used in the new Fire TV set top box. If that’s the case, I also wonder if Google will continue to allow Amazon to disable access to the Google Play Store to favor the Amazon app marketplace. With 200 thousand apps available for download, the Amazon marketplace is a far cry from the 1.2 million apps that are available on Google Play. Then again, it’s not like people are going to download hundreds of thousands of applications, and Amazon does have great apps that cover the basics, so they should be okay. For the most part. If they take that route.

Amazon Bezos Pricing

The question on the minds of most people is what the cost of this device would be. To tell you the truth, I don’t think it’ll be all that expensive. Amazon is known to sell their hardware at cost, because they earn their money by selling content from their app marketplace. Setting aside the fact that Amazon will have to compete with Apple and Samsung in some of the larger markets – I’d say this phone might actually stand a chance to sell a decent number of units, at least initially.
