December E-mini S&Ps (ESZ14 -0.28%) this morning are down -0.27% and European stocks are down -0.23% as world equity markets retreated on concern over global growth after Japan Q3 GDP unexpectedly contracted for a second quarter, a sign of recession.

Adjusted earnings of 65 cents beat the Zacks Consensus Estimate of 62 cents by 4.8% and were up 25% year over year.

December E-mini S&Ps (ESZ14 -0.08%) this morning are down -0.16% ahead of the FOMC decision later today, and European stocks are up +0.16% on better-than-expected earnings results from Total SA and Schneider Electric SE.

Despite concerns over the global economy and discretionary spending, there may still be room for investment in the travel sector heading into the final part of the year.
